For the best results it is important to prepare your quilt top and back properly. There are many ways to make a quilt. The Innova is known for its wonderful stitch quality and ability to handle a wide range of fabrics.
Quilt Top
- Carefully press your pieced quilt top during construction and give it a final press before machine quilting
- Trim loose threads from the front and back
- Make sure the quilt top is flat and square. A quilt with fullness can end up with wrinkles.
Backing
- The backing must be at least 4 inches larger than the top on every side. For example if your quilt is 50 x 70 your quilt back needs to be 58 x 78
- Backing should be squared and pressed
- The backing seams should be 1/2 inch. Selvedges should be removed. We recommend pressing the seams open and flat.
- Quilters cotton makes the best backing. We will not accept sheets as a backing. Sheets make it extremely difficult to get a good consistent thread tension.
Batting
- Customer supplied batting needs to be at least 4 inches larger than quilt top on all sides.
- We have several Hobbs battings we can supply at a reasonable price. Generally we stock Hobbs Natural Cotton (98″) , Hobbs 80/20 Natural (98″) and Hobbs 80/20 White (108″).
Bring your quilt and we will help you decide on the right thread and design to enhance your creation.
